Nominating Petitions

Each prospective candidate who satisfies the candidate eligibility requirements and seeks nomination to be a District Council officer must submit to the Election Officer a nominating petition with the signatures of at least one hundred fifty (150) members in good standing by Friday, February 28, 2025.  After petitions are submitted to the Election Officer, they will be verified for compliance with the Rules.

Nominating petitions submitted to the Election Officer by prospective candidates will be kept confidential and are not available for inspection by any other candidate or member.  All nominating petitions will be destroyed by the Election Officer or the District Council’s Inspector General one year after the final certification of the election.

General Requirements for Petitions:

  • A prospective candidate must obtain the signatures of at least one hundred fifty (150) District Council members in good standing on pre-printed nominating petition forms provided by the Election Officer.
  • The petition of a prospective candidate must be received by the Election Officer, or his designee, by email on or before Friday, February 28, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.  The email address for this purpose is 2025CarpentersElection@crowell.com.  If submitted via email, the prospective candidate shall also deliver the original nominating petition to the Election Officer in a reasonable period of time thereafter.  Alternatively, the prospective candidate may hand deliver the petition in a sealed envelope to Chief Compliance Officer Josh Leicht, or Chief Operating Officer Matt Walker, or if neither are available, they may be turned in to the 9th Floor Security Desk.  In any event, the Monitor will eventually receive the hard copy petition.  The prospective candidate may retain a copy of his or her nominating petition.
  • Although a prospective candidate may not run for more than one District Council officer position, they may collect signatures on petitions to be nominated for more than one District Council officer position on a separate petition for each office the candidate may seek.  If nominated for more than one position, the prospective candidate may run for only one of those positions.
  • Nominating petitions may be signed only by members in good standing.  Membership status for the purpose of signing nominating petitions shall be determined as of the date the petition was filed.
  • A member may sign the nominating petitions of as many different prospective candidates as he or she wishes, but may not sign any one candidate’s nominating petition for each District Council officer petition more than once.
  • A prospective candidate who submits a nominating petition to the Election Officer for verification may not withdraw the petition without the written approval of the Election Officer.  The reason for withdrawal must be submitted by the prospective candidate to the Election Officer in writing.  The Election Officer must be reasonably certain that the prospective candidate has not requested withdrawal as a result of coercion, or if he or she has been coerced, that it is reasonable or prudent to allow the candidate to withdraw.
  • Nominating petitions may be circulated to the membership by any member in good standing.
  • Prospective candidates may begin gathering signatures on or after Monday, February 17, 2025.
  • The petition form is attached hereto as Exhibit A and available on the District Council’s website; a petition form may also be obtained by contacting the Election Officer at the telephone number or email address printed on the last page of the Rules. Prospective candidates are required to use these forms. The information required on nominating petitions is discussed below.
