The Union Labor Advisory Network, also known as the ULA, held its Inaugural Launch Party on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023, and the NYC District Council of Carpenters was thrilled to be in attendance. This event marked a significant step towards promoting labor unions in New York and the surrounding areas. Michael Fina, the founder of ULA and a close friend of the NYC Carpenters Union, spearheaded this initiative with great enthusiasm.
We were delighted to be present at the grand launch party, but our excitement reached new heights when we discovered that our Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Joseph Geiger, would be among the distinguished honorees of the evening. Joseph’s recognition was well-deserved, as he has tirelessly dedicated himself to supporting veterans through his philanthropic endeavors on behalf of the NYC Carpenters Union. In the past seven years alone, our union has successfully raised an astounding sum of over 1 million dollars, which we have wholeheartedly donated to organizations like Jared Allen’s Home 4 Wounded Warriors. Witnessing the union’s remarkable efforts being acknowledged was truly awe-inspiring, and we take immense pride in all our members who contribute to making our charitable initiatives a resounding success.
Congrats to all the other distinguished individuals who were honored, and a special shout-out to Gary LaBarbera Jr., a former Marine and Teamsters Business Agent with Local 282. After dedicating 20 years to the Marine Corps, Gary has now embarked on a new chapter in his life. We are truly amazed by his incredible courage and selflessness, and we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.
