Brothers and Sisters,
As we approach another Labor Day, the world might treat it as a day off from school or work, or for BBQs and beach trips, but we know better. This day was built for us, by us: the working class, the trades, and especially the union workers who’ve fought tooth and nail for every right we have today.
It’s not a gift. It’s the result of generations of hard-fought battles, led by workers who organized, stood strong, and demanded better. Because of those who came before us, we’ve got the eight-hour workday, jobsite protections, pensions, healthcare, and the dignity to earn a fair day’s wage for a fair day’s work. That’s what Labor Day is really about. For us in the New York City District Council of Carpenters, it’s personal. We don’t just talk about labor, we live it. We’re on the job before the sun comes up building the skyline. When this city moves, it’s because of the hands and backs of the unionized trades and nobody represents that pride more than the Carpenters.
So, this weekend, celebrate however you choose. Take a well-earned break from work, relax with your family and friends, and yes, enjoy that Labor Day BBQ. Just remember: Labor Day is YOUR day.
On behalf of everyone at 395 Hudson, I wish you all a happy Labor Day. And next weekend, let’s show this city who we are. Join us at the New York City Labor Day Parade next weekend on Saturday, September 6th. Lineup begins at 9:30 AM, and our march time is at 12:30 PM at East 46th Street between Madison and Vanderbilt. Bring your loved ones and bring your pride. This is a day for all of us in the NYC District Council of Carpenters’ family.
In solidarity,

Paul Capurso
