Statement on COVID-19 from EST Joseph Geiger

03.13.2020 jwatson

Brothers and Sisters,

We have been closely monitoring developments with the Coronavirus (COVID-19). In this global pandemic of unprecedented magnitude, the safety of our members and staff is our highest priority and first responsibility. With growing concerns surrounding COVID-19, we want you to know your union stands with you.

We have been following recommendations of global health experts at the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, as well as local directives at the NYC Department of Health.

Additionally, we are taking the actions necessary to protect the health and safety of the membership, representatives, and staff. To that end, a contingency plan is in effect and the Benefit Funds and NYC District Council will remain open to serve you.

However, to mitigate any potential illnesses, the Carpenters Training Center (CTC) has postponed all classes for the next two weeks, effective March 16, 2020. Members may take classes online with recognized accredited organizations during the time of school closure and be reimbursed by the CTC with original receipts of course completion. Only the courses listed on the CTC website will be reimbursed.

We understand this time of uncertainty is difficult. Please take every precaution to remain healthy and care for your families. As the situation continues to evolve, we will provide every update available. Please refer to the District Council website for further information.

In solidarity,

Joseph Geiger
Executive Secretary-Treasurer
